Day 53 – October 29, 2026 – Luke 9

When we look at Peter’s declaration of who Jesus is we find ourselves in the crux of Jesus’ ministry. Peter proclaims that Jesus is the Messiah which is at the root, at the base of all that we do around here. The Messiah is the one who brings the kingdom of God to earth through the sacrifice and death of himself for all of humanity. The Messiah is God incarnate, or as John 1 state, the Word becoming flesh and dwelling among us. Jesus is that Messiah, Jesus provide salvation for all of humanity, Jesus gives us reason and purpose.

The chapter contains a lot more than a single declaration of Peter. After that declaration we have the transfiguration. One thing about that which I probably knew but hadn’t really paid attention over is the fact that Jesus had gone up a mountain to pray with his three favorite disciples. The going up the mountain to pray had escaped me, but this is what we read in vs.28. Also, the 5,000 people were there to see Jesus. That is a megachurch! Jesus’ disciples were much more than just the 12, as we saw earlier, and he knew and loved each one of them.
